Skill, passion and humour

Respectful leadership and people are the glue that keeps Sini at Sako

Sini, who works as Sako’s HRD Manager, has seen the company’s growth and development over many years. She originally joined the company back in 2006, and returned to the HR team from elsewhere just over seven years ago. Above all, it was Sako’s people who drew her back. She moved into her current role as HRD Manager about three years ago. What motivates Sini in particular are different people and development projects that have a genuine impact on the business goals, growth and strategy.

A long history creates stability

Sako stands out in the Finnish business landscape with its exceptional financial performance. According to Sini, the company’s financial strength is a significant factor both for current employees and for new recruits. Sako has 15 consecutive years of rising revenue and strong results behind it. Stability gives an employee security and a steady income. Job seekers interested in Sako also value the stability an employer brings and the prospect of long-term work. Restructuring negotiations are not typical at Sako. A history of more than 100 years and belonging to the 500-year-old Beretta group create a solid foundation.

I find Sako’s history fascinating. Few companies have as diverse and interesting a history as we do. When you have more than a hundred years behind you, you are clearly operating on a pretty stable footing. And of course that stability brings peace of mind to your own work and life.

“Every Sako employee can be proud of their workplace”

Sako is a brand respected around the world, and this is directly reflected in the pride employees take in their own work. Even though not everyone is in production making the final products, quality guides the work in specialist roles too. To be able to manufacture high-quality products, cooperation is essential and support for the different roles is central. Sini emphasises that every Sako employee can be proud of their workplace and of the products it makes. This is also a really strong selling point when recruiting new employees. According to Sini, quality in expert work means developing operations and processes and aiming to get things right the first time. The brand’s reputation also makes it easier to attract new talent.

I can proudly talk about the company’s situation and success, its history, and also its future prospects,” Sini says.

Development supports the business and strategy

Development – both of the organisation and of oneself – is a central part of Sako’s culture. Sini too is inspired at work by the kinds of development projects that support the business, growth and strategy. She has been involved in many interesting development projects, such as competence development and the related rewards, and various system projects such as the introduction of an online learning environment and the internal intranet, Sakonet, which has significantly improved the flow of information and the sense of community. Even though the intranet was launched several years ago, Sini is delighted with how it has been received:

Retirement stories and other lighter content have received a huge amount of positive feedback. It creates a sense of belonging. People like to follow and influence the general internal communications.

Technological change and a changing world call for continuous competence development. Sini feels that Sako encourages its employees to study and develop themselves.

We have a constant desire to move forward and develop. There are always plenty of development projects under way, building the future. I have been able to develop myself through various training, and right now I am studying for a master’s degree alongside work. In this role it is essential to stay up to date with legislation and a changing world. If you don’t keep up, your knowledge is already out of date in five years’ time,” Sini reflects.

Sako’s HR team has a culture of experimentation, where new ideas such as artificial intelligence are boldly tested. The challenge is rather the abundance of ideas:

In our team there are often more ideas than it is possible to carry out. We are really open to development.

The best things at Sako are the people and everyday humour

Sako is a large work community that operates across several locations. Sini emphasises that the strength of the work community lies in its people and in mutual respect. Every role is valued, and support is always available. Skill alone is not enough – at Sako people also want to be good colleagues. In the middle of everyday busyness, humour is an important pick-me-up that helps you keep going. It was the people who once brought Sini back to Sako, and people are still a big factor that keeps her committed to the company:

People are the glue. There is a huge amount of skill and passion here, and a desire to move things forward and develop. On top of that, respectful leadership is important to me, and it has a big effect on commitment.

According to Sini, the person who thrives best at Sako is someone who values cooperation and helping others, and who wants to learn new things and move things forward.

If you are looking for meaningful and varied work in a unique industry, cooperation and teamwork play a big part here,” Sini sums up.
